Fans are still hoping for at least one more season of "Sherlock" despite the rather conclusive finale "The Final Problem". There are speculations that the next season will be delayed due to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's current commitments to Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks. But is it possible that "Sherlock" Season 5 is officially cancelled? Co-creator Mark Gatiss has just admitted he doesn't see the BBC series continuing with another season.

Mark Gatiss has already expressed uncertainty over "Sherlock" Season 5, stating that "The Final Problem" could be exactly that (via Comic Book). However, the man who plays Mycroft Holmes offered some hope, suggesting that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman might still return to reprise their iconic roles. However, it looks like Gatiss has changed his mind about the future of the BBC show.

The co-creator of "Sherlock" recently discussed the possible fourth season, claiming that he is unsure "if there will be any more" episodes following "The Final Problem". Mark Gatiss revealed that "Sherlock" Season 5 might not happen due to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's busy schedule. In addition to that, the real Mycroft Holmes admitted that he and co-creator Stephen Moffatt were satisfied with how the previous season has ended.

Gatiss shared that he's "very happy" that they concluded the BBC series "in a very happy place". So does this mean "Sherlock" Season 5 is cancelled? Fans are still holding on to hope that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will find time to reprise their roles.

Cumberbatch is currently working on "Avengers: Infinity War" while Freeman has been spotted on the set of "Black Panther". Meanwhile, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffatt are reportedly working together on a completely different project. With all major players completely involved with their own projects, "Sherlock" may be in hiatus for a long time.
