NFL 2017 Latest News & Update: Dallas Cowboys Owner Still Undecided On Tony Romo Issue
The Dallas Cowboys have yet to decide the fate of veteran quarterback Tony Romo. Team owner Jerry Jones says that no decision has been made when asked about their plans for the 36-year-old quarterback. The Dallas Cowboys recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of their 1992 Super Bowl championship team.
With the euphoria of that 1992 triumph in the air, it wasn’t surprising to see folks asking for the Cowboys quarterback position, NBC Sports reported. The belief is that Tony Romo is on his way out with a buyout looming as the obvious recourse. A trade has been set aside since the high salary that the veteran quarterback currently holds is unlikely to be picked up by teams in need of a quarterback.
One team that has been linked to Tony Romo is the Denver Broncos. Team owner John Elway made it clear that the only way they would take him in is through the free agent route – meaning a more reasonable contract will likely be offered. The 36-year-old veteran is more likely aware of that though he seems more interested in getting playing time as a starter.
But like the Cowboys, Elway and the Broncos will have a similar dilemma. Dak Prescott displaced Tony Romo with his breakout rookie year. In Denver, there is Paxton Lynch, 9news.com pointed out. Unlike Prescott, Lynch didn’t really stand out. Trevor Siemian took up the slack vacated by Peyton Manning and most believe he is best used as a backup quarterback. In short, Lynch and Siemian lack the experience and that is where Romo comes in.
If Tony Romo is taken in, it could force Elway to give up one among Lynch and Siemian. Despite a previous statement affirming that Lynch and Siemian are the official quarterbacks for the Broncos, a lot of that can change this NFL offseason.
