"Doctor Strange 2" may be a couple of years from now, but star Benedict Cumberbatch is already campaigning for Scott Derrickson to helm the upcoming sequel to the 2016 blockbuster hit. The star of Marvel's latest film was very vocal of his support for the director, who was lauded for the success of last year's "Doctor Strange."

In other Benedict Cumberbatch news, however, it seems that the actor may not return for "Sherlock." Would it be because of his commitments for Marvel's "Doctor Strange 2?" Last year's "Doctor Strange" was a massive success, earning $675.9 million on a $165 million budget. While there hasn't been any confirmation about the sequel, it's highly likely that Marvel would invest in a sequel.

Den of Geek reported back in October that the studio was already in the early planning stage and that Cumberbatch is in fact signed on for at least one more in the form of "Doctor Strange 2." It may be early in the game, but Benedict Cumberbatch is already campaigning for Scott Derrickson to helm the sequel. The director is also known for horror films such as "Sinister" and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose."

As per a repot from ScreenCrush, the "Sherlock" actor is absolutely excited to work with the "Sinister" director again, as Benedict Cumberbatch is already campaigning for Scott Derrickson to helm "Doctor Strange 2." The actor commends Derrickson's "great skill" which was evident on screen. However, is Cumberbatch's commitments to the Marvel film the reason why he may not return for "Sherlock?"

As per Digital Spy, "Sherlock" co-creator Mark Gatiss admitted that there's no definite plans for more series (or in the U.S., seasons) of the show, thanks to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's schedules. Nonetheless, he admits that if their schedules allow for more episodes of "Sherlock," he is definitely ready story-wise.
