Bob Harper has suffered from a serious heart attack that left him unconscious for 2 days. It all started when Harper was working out in a New York City gym 2 weeks ago.

Luckily, when he collapsed, a doctor was also working out. The doctor administered CPR and used two paddles to keep him alive. He was then taken to a New York City hospital by ambulance.

The 51-year-old personal trainer became famous for appearing on TV as a host of "The Biggest Loser.". Harper, who lives in L.A., said he was unconscious and woke up 2 days after.

He stayed at the hospital for 8 days and is still in New York. Doctors still have not cleared him to fly across the country. He is not back to his usual fitness routine and has been limited to walking as a form of exercise according to Daily Mail.

TMZ reported that Harper said the heart attack was genetic as his mom died from a heart attack. He is now doing better.

More than a million Americans have heart attacks each year according to WebMD. Heart disease can also run the family. But even if one inherits the risks factors such as high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or being overweight, there are measures that can help avoid developing cardiovascular disease.

One inherited factor is high cholesterol level, which is also known as familial hypercholesterolemia. Better eating habits, physical activity and eliminating smoking are encouraged for those with familial hypercholesterolemia.

The American Heart Association has designed and developed a "My Life Check, Life's Simple 7 Success Plan," a simple seven step list to improve health. The steps are not expensive to take, as changes and improvements in one's health will surely make a difference.

The list was developed to deliver on the hope that we all have to live a long, productive healthy life.
