Mobile World Congress 2017 Latest News & Updates: Sony Explains Absence Of Modern Biometric Security For US Market
Sony has unveiled its new batch of devices, led no less by the Sony Xperia XZ Premium model. While the new devices should give other smartphones a run for their money, US customers may have to deal with the fact that the Sony Xperia smartphones landing on their end will come with one less feature – a fingerprint sensor.
Considering that most smartphones in the market right now have some advanced form or biometric security, such may disappoint a lot of people. But then again, there is a logical explanation why such was made. Don Mesa, the Head of Marketing, North America for Sony Mobile US shed more light, saying that all of it was a business decision, Android Central reported.
From the looks of it, there was a prior deal that could have forced Sony to make some alterations to the Sony Xperia line that will be offered to the American market. The bottom line is that if Sony wanted to continue catering to the US market, they had to do so less the popular fingerprint sensor. There were no specifics given on what deal Sony could have possibly made, though it may be some sort of exclusivity deal with a certain party, Ubergizmo reported.
It remains to be seen if one less feature would hurt the chances of the Sony Xperia in the US market. Some may opt to get other brands though there are other things that the Sony Xperia line boasts better. At the top of the list is of course the camera the phone offers – a given based on current and previous Sony Xperia models.
Sony’s hands are tied at the moment. But the company did make it clear that given the choice, they would have enabled the fingerprint sensor for its Sony Xperia lineup offered to the US market. Either way, the good news is that there are new devices out – with one less feature that shouldn’t be a big deal.
