A batch of vodka produced locally in Canada has been recalled after it was found out to have 81 percent alcohol. The content is more than the alcohol content listed on its bottles.

According to the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), the batch of Georgian Bay vodka was bottled even before it was properly diluted. The action resulted in an alcohol content of 81 percent which pose a danger to public.

The vodka that has been recalled has a label that says it contains only 40 percent alcohol. Vodka can be consumed as it is without dilution or mix. Unsuspecting consumers can be put in dangers according to Christine Bujold, the spokesperson of LCBO.

Bujold added that makers of the vodka, Georgian Bay Gin Company, is fully cooperating the LCBO. The Toronto-based company is a small-batch distiller that has won industry awards. Last year, it has also won honours at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Denzil Wadds, the vodka company spokesperson, said that the final blend was incorrectly executed. Around 654 bottles of vodka with 81 percent alcohol concentration was affected. Wadds said that 300 of those vodka bottles are still in the LCBO warehouse. The remainder has already been removed from the shelves.

To prevent the same mistake, Georgian Bay Gin Company is rewriting the entire quality assurance procedure of the distillery. They are also hiring a third party assurance expert to evaluate the processes inside the company to ensure that every step has been executed properly.

The vodka's 81 percent alcohol content was discovered when a customer brought back a bottle. There has been no record of illnesses reported so far according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The agency advises retailers and consumers to check their products with UPC number 6 27843 36216 6. They are advised to throw or return to the store the vodka with 81 percent alcohol.
