Vitamins, Medicines Taken By Shannon Rowbury & Galen Rupp Prior To Rio 2016 Olympics Revealed
A group of Russian hackers has released a complete list of vitamins and medicines taken by runners Shannon Rowbury and Galen Rupp before the Rio 2016 Olympics. All substances in the list are allowed under the World Anti-Doping Agency rules.
Fancy Bears, a group of Russian hacker, is responsible for releasing the detailed vitamins and medicines taken by the two Nike Oregon Project runners. Dr. Jean-Michel Serra, doctor of the French Athletics Federation, reportedly say that the list was quite astounding. "One wonders if they are not sick! Taking drugs when you are not sick is clearly entering into the foundations of doping," she said.
However, the vitamins and medicines in the list are common substances. However, one supplement included in the list is zinc monomethionine aspartate (ZMA). It is a supplement developed by Victor Conte who is the founder of BALCO. In the mid-2000s, he has pleaded guilty to distributing steroids. ZMA improves recovery as a sleeping aid by ensuring REM. It can also boost hormone profiles including testosterone. ZMA does not contain any banned substances.
In the list of vitamins and medicines released by Fancy Bears, Galen Rupp took Citracal for treatment of calcium deficiencies. For treatment of allergic respiratory diseases, Rupp took iron, vitamins C, D and E and zinc and ZMA.
Shannon Rowbury has a longer list of vitamins and medicines taken prior to the Rio 2016 Olympics. It includes oral and sprays of vitamin D, magnesium oil, a bag of glucose energy drink, beet powder and GU gel.
For the runner's dietary supplement, the list includes vitamin B and dapsone gel 7.5 percent. Meanwhile, the nutritional supplement includes Optimum Nutrition whey protein, vitamin C, carbonyl iron and Voltaren tablet and arnica gel.
According to Running Magazine, Ryan Madden, the United States Anti-Doping Agency spokesman, said that Fancy Bears continue to leak document like the vitamins and medicine list of some runners. The group may have wanted to distract the general public away from the doping scandal.
