'Stranger Things' News & Update: Shannon Purser AKA Barb Lands Role In NBC's 'Drama High'
Things are no longer strange for Shannon Purser, one of 2016's biggest breakout actresses. The 19-year old, who rose to fame with Netflix's "Stranger Things," landed a role in NBC's "Drama High," which also features "Moana" voice actress and newcomer, Auli'i Cravalho.
"Stranger Things" Star's New Show
Purser is no longer a stranger to television, as she also had a recurring role in The CW's "Riverdale." Her next project is NBC's "Drama High," which is based on the book of the same name, Vanity Fair reported.
The series will follow a drama teacher named Lou Volpe in a small town in Pennsylvania. Here, he inspires his students to hone their talents in theater. One of those students is Annabelle, which will be played by Purser.

Annabelle was written specifically for "Stranger Things" star, Shannon Purser, who is known by fans as Barb, Nancy's best friend who was quickly taken by the Demogorgon and killed in episode 3 of the breakout series. In NBC's "Drama High," Purser's Annabelle will be determined to get a part in "Spring Awakening," despite not really being the ideal person for the part.
Who Else Is Working With the "Stranger Things" Actress In "Drama High?"
According to CNN, NBC's "Drama High" will be part of the network's fall schedule in the event that it gets picked up. The series' executive producer is Jason Katims, who is also responsible for "Parenthood" and "Friday Night Lights." Joining him is Jeffrey Seller, who produced the Broadway hit, "Hamilton." "Drama High" will star "Moana" voice actress Auli'i Cravalho as Lilette, another of Volpe's students.
