"Fifty Shades Darker" has surpassed "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" in the box-office. Of course, Hugh Jackman's "Logan" is catching up fast.

Right now, it is the Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan movie that has become the biggest hit of 2017. And it is not surprising, as right from the start, the promotion for the erotic drama generated a lot of hype and response.

According to Forbes, the Paramount/Viacom Inc. release from Vin Diesel is a big time hit due to its massive $159 m collection in China, however, the Universal/Comcast Corp.'s "Fifty Shades Darker" is now a much bigger hit with $356 million earnings worldwide.

Unexpected Success For "Fifty Shades of Grey" Sequel

No one expected the $55 million-budgeted sequel of the "Fifty Shades Grey" blockbuster movie of 2015 to be such a big hit. Of course this time, lead stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan worked really hard to ensure that their sexual chemistry sizzles onscreen.

However, there were certain factors challenging the "Fifty Shades Darker" aspirations to become a big hit. At first, it lost Sam Taylor-Johnson as director and later on writer, Kelly Marcel.

So the loss of two big people from the creative department indicated that it could be possible for the sequel to be unsuccessful. However, the change of director and writer worked much better for the Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan flick.

Moreover, the reviews for "Fifty Shades Darker" were not too good. Rather, the sequel received very inferior ratings. But it still managed to prove all the critics wrong. Incidentally, the third movie from the franchise, "Fifty Shades Freed" will release in Feb. next year, and now fans can hope that it also receives the same response.

Dakota Johnson Covers Herself For Next Movie

Having dropped all her clothes for the "Fifty Shades Darker" flick, lead actress Dakota Johnson is now covering up almost everything for her new role in "Suspiria," reports Digital Spy. The film is the remake of a 1977 horror film From Dario Argento in which Johnson will be playing the role of a young ballet dancer.
