The Cleveland Cavaliers has picked up free agent Larry Sanders as they try to shore up their defense inside the paint. The development comes as the Cavs recent acquisition in Andrew Bogut did not pan out because of a season-ending injury in just under one minute of play.

 Sanders was picked up by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2010 NBA Draft and played for them until he walked away from the game. USA Today tallied his four-season stats with the Mavs, averaging 6.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks. The Cavs hope that he can provide much-needed rebounds for the team in their NBA title defense.

Larry Sanders has been away from the game for two years. He was embroiled in controversy and was found to have violated the NBA's drug rules four times. ESPN reports that he tested positive in marijuana tests and after his separation from the game, Sanders took himself to a hospital for anxiety and depression treatment.

The defending champions have been struggling as of late. The Cavs have lost four of their last five games with the latest being handed to them by the Houston Rockets. Ever since the Cavs lost Kevin Love to a knee injury, they hope acquiring Sanders will be their answer to their rebounding woes.

Andrew Bogut has now officially been waived as Sanders takes the fifteenth slot in the Cavs' roster. The development was made public after Sanders met with the Cavs management early this week and underwent a physical examination. He is expected to be in shape as he is still very athletic and just needs to work on regaining his muscle mass and timing. Sanders' career highlight which may have caught the Cavs' attention was when he placed second in blocking in the league in the 2012-2013 season.
