Dana White Softens Stance; Find Out More Developments on the Billion Dollar Fight [VIDEO]
Call it an about-face or flip-flop but Dana White has just softened on his stance regarding the possibility of the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight happening.
Dana White has consistently maintained in all prior interviews that he is against the fight. He has cited Conor McGregor's contractual obligations to the UFC as one of the main reasons the fight is not happening. But as the Daily Mail has reported, the UFC owner has gone on record that while it did not make sense for his business, he will not stop McGregor from fighting Mayweather.
The mega fight is expected to rake in over $100 million and is touted to be the biggest fight of all time. With all this much at stake, Express UK reports that Dana White still hopes that Conor McGregor chooses to fight in the UFC. Dana White had hoped that before the bout with Mayweather happens, he will fight a title defense against the undisputed challenger fight the UFC is cooking up.
The money at stake may have played a big role in the changing of Dana White's opinion on the boxing match but MMA watchers have pointed out a recent development as a bigger reason to let McGregor fight Mayweather. The undisputed challenger fight that Dana White's UFC was trying to set up between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov has fizzled out. Normagomedov has fallen ill after failing to make the weight in UFC 209.
Other indicators have also come up to support the idea that the fight will happen. The T-Mobile Arena has reportedly provisionally reserved on June 10 suggesting that the Las Vegas fight Mayweather was hoping for will happen. There have also been unconfirmed reports that McGregor is doing boxing training in preparation for the fight.
At this point, only Conor McGregor's camp has not made any statement yet. He is still on his extended time away from fighting as he waits for the birth of his first child in May.
