According to a recent report, chronic diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease need to be further looked into to prioritize, evaluate, monitor, and for better health results across all countries.

One of the authors leading the research is Shah Ebrahim from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. The result is published in PLOS Medicine.

The author stressed on the importance of carrying out further research on these chronic but non-communicable diseases across all the income groups of the world. As of now, there are only a few researches being done on these chronic diseases among the lower- and middle-income strata. There has been a repeated request for more research to be done, due to the lack of which there is a rising number of these diseases among the two economic groups.

Any research in the high-income countries as well as the medium- and low-income countries will be mutually beneficial. The benefits include finding out new agents triggering these diseases, replicating and extending these results, as well as finding out any possible association between the infectious diseases and that of non-communicable diseases.

Regular research of these diseases is needed, at the various stages, and the policies need to be altered and actioned accordingly. There are some stages where there is no knowledge of how many people are affected by these diseases, and in some stages all the necessary information is available to deal with and treat the patients.

"Global and local research, particularly if it can be conducted in parallel in high-income countries and middle-and low-income countries, can provide powerful arguments for the need to act globally. The time has now come for all health-related research and development funders-global, regional, and national-to acknowledge the existence of non-communicable diseases and rise to the challenges they present," the author was quoted as saying in Medicalxpress.
