'Black Lightning' Spoilers: Cress Williams As Jefferson Pierce, Casting Updates, And More

Black Lightning" series casts "Prison Break" actor, Cress Williams to portray the role of Jefferson Pierce. Read on to learn more details about "Black Lightning."

According to Hollywood Reporter, the comic book character already has its own TV pilot. DC just revealed new updates about the live-action adaptation project with Williams as the lead star.

The outlet shared the first look photos at Williams' character. Costume designer Laura Jean Shannon from "Jumanji" and "Blade: Trinity" worked on the costume. She previously earned a nomination for the Costume Designers Guild Awards.

Meet Black Lightning

The newest DC TV series follows Jefferson Pierce, who is one of the first African-American comic book superheroes. It will feature the character made by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden from the 1977 comics.

Black Lightning has the ability to manipulate and control electricity. After a few years, he retired to live a normal life. The pilot synopsis from DC revealed that his daughter and another student will make him bring back his secret identity.

Black Lightning TV Series Update

The series has been in development for various TV shows until it landed at a pilot order in The CW. "Arrow" showrunner Greg Berlanti worked with "The Game" creator Mara Brock Akil and her hubby Samil Akil.

Samil Akil directed the pilot with the script from him and his wife. They will join Berlanti and Sarah Schechter as the executive producer.

For Berlanti, this will his fifth superhero series in partnership with DC, Warner Bros., and The CW. The broadcast network currently airs "Supergirl," "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow."

Black Lightning Cast Update

Actor Cress Williams is known for his Wyatt character in "Prison Break." his other acting credits include "Hart of Dixie" and "Code Black."In the latest casting updates, The CW has tapped three actresses to join Williams.

"Tron: Legacy" actress Christine Adams will play as Jefferson's ex-wife, Lynn. Nafessa Williams and China Ann McCain will portray Anissa and Jennifer Pierce. They are the couple's young daughters.

In the comics, both Anissa and Jennifer followed their dad's footsteps. Anissa became Thunder while Jennifer took the Lightning role.

As of this writing, there are no other updates. The CW has yet to reveal the release date for "Black Lightning" TV series.
