"Batgirl" will have a live-action adaptation from Marvel's "The Avengers" director, Joss Whedon. This will be his latest project with DC Comics. Read on for more details.

The well-known comic book collaborator will jump from Marvel to the DC Cinematic Universe. He previously wrote and directed "The Avengers" and its sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." His TV credits include “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” and “Firefly."

"Batgirl" Movie In The Works With Joss Whedon

Variety exclusively reported that Warner Bros. is now negotiating with Whedon for a future "Batgirl" partnership. He will work on a standalone movie, which will focus on Batman's female counterpart. If the plans will push through, the "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" creator will have his full as the writer, director, and producer.

As of this writing, Whedon is the only one attached to the "Batgirl" movie. The said DC solo flick was made possible by Warner Bros. COO Toby Emmerich, with Jon Berg, and Geoff Johns.

Who Is Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl?

Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) is known for being part of Batman's group alongside Robin. Some of her abilities include exceptional martial arts skills, making strategies for combat, and has a knowledge in advanced technology.

Barbara Gordon first appeared as Batgirl in 1967 for "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl." She is the daughter of Gotham city commissioner, James Gordon. Gardner Fox (writer) and Carmin Infantino (artist) created the said character.

The New 52 Plot Plus Wonder Woman Connection

According to Entertainment Weekly, Whedon's film will focus on the Barbara Gordon character from the "New 52" arc. Gail Simone wrote her story for the reboot in 2011.

In the "New 52," Barbara opted to do some top-secret work as super-hacker Oracle. It was after she succumbed to a spinal injury that she got from Joker in "The Killing Joke."

What do Batgirl and Wonder Woman have in common? They are just the only DC characters who have their own solo movies. Meanwhile, DC is currently developing "Gotham City Siren" featuring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.
