By Paula Sean | Update Date: Apr 18, 2017 09:07 PM EDT

When "Will and Grace" was being aired, it was one of those rare television shows that dealt with the subject of a gay character. Since the show went off the air in 2006, the LGBTQ community has come a long way.

Now, some fans are apprehensive whether a "Will and Grace" 2017 revival can fare well this time around or not. Get to know more details, here.

According to a report by Huffington Post, the LGBTQ community members are not averse to the idea of spending their money and time in supporting a television program that will come up with interesting themes. Ever since shows like "Sense 8" and "Orange is the New Black" started airing, the community enjoys a fair representation on the television screen. The big question is, whether Grace Adler and Will Truman can face the stiff competition or not.

"Will and Grace" Updates: Debra Messing Defends Show

Messing, 48, was seen in the role of Grace, a straight interior designer in the last eight seasons of "Will and Grace." The actress accepted that the TV show will have to face challenges.

The actress is also convinced that the revival should reflect the LGBTQ community as it is today. A section of viewers also feels that the two gay characters of the show Jack and Will, will represent only a stereotype of those limited gay people who are typically cisgender and affluent.

"Will and Grace" Revival To Air On NBC

The show will return to NBC for season 9 and there will be 12 episodes in total that will run through the next year. Messing is set to reprise her role in the upcoming season of "Will and Grace", which is slated to start in the later part of 2017.

The decision for the revival of the show was unexpected and was made public after a surprise episode that lasted for 10 minutes and was aired just before America's presidential election. Initially, just 10 episodes of the show were ordered by the network. Although Variety reported this Apr. that two extra episodes have been ordered by NBC.
