Selena Gomez has finally worked on her passion project, "13 Reasons Why." Although, she will not star in the show, the "Hands To Myself" hit maker is working behind the scenes.

"13 Reasons Why" is based on the best selling book from Jay Asher, which has been turned into a Netflix series and executive produced by Selena Gomez. The "Kill 'Em With Kindness" hit maker has finally talked about her passion project and why she is behind the scenes and not on it as the lead actress.

According to People, Selena Gomez was supposed to play the main character in "13 Reasons Why." The character is named Hannah Baker, who decided to end her life and left 13 cassettes behind, which contain the reasons why she committed suicide.

Gomez stated that she felt a connection to Baker saying, “I see myself as Hannah so much. I wanted it to feel like anyone can see themselves in this.”

However, she has chosen to stay behind the cameras instead of playing the role. “A book is frightening for me because I know the cult following it has, which is the reason why I didn’t want to be in it," Gomez stated.

Meanwhile, Katherine Langford, who plays the role of Baker, said Gomez has been involved in the story and making of the Netflix series. She even revealed that even Gomez's mom has been supportive along the way.

On the other hand, USA Today unveiled the cast behind "13 Reasons Why." According to the site, Langford has an Instagram account and that she is very fun to follow. She often says thanks to the viewers and fans of the Netflix series.

New reports suggested that "13 Reasons Why" might be followed with a new season. However, this is yet to be confirmed by Netflix.
