Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has once again stepped up her acting game, as she attended the premiere of her new starrer, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" at the SVA Theater in New York City last Apr. 18.

Oprah's New Venture

The film bio is Oprah Winfrey's latest foray in acting with tackling the role of Deborah Lacks, Henrietta's daughter. She hopes the film will be well-received by critics as her other films like "Beloved", "Selma" and "The Color Purple".

The director, George C. Wolfe is all praises of Oprah Winfrey and hopes she does more films, as her acting is "brilliant". The cast of the film also could not put into words how it was like to work with her as an actor and as a producer, Variety reported.

The Life Of Henrietta Lacks 

Getting Oprah Winfrey to pick up the story was easy because as a person who lived and worked in Baltimore where the story of Henrietta Lacks happened, she found it fascinating that she had never come across her story. Henrietta Lacks is known in the medical research world for unwittingly donating her cervical cancer cells to science.

These cells were able to reproduce outside of the body at an incredibly rapid rate that made them ideal to research. The HeLa cells, as they are called now have been used in researches that have contributed to breakthroughs like in vitro fertilization and the polio vaccine, the Los Angeles Times reported.

It was more like destiny that Oprah Winfrey picked up the rights to the book Rebecca Skloot put together. Skloot said that Deborah Lacks predicted in one of their conversations that the novel she was putting together will become a bestseller and become a film with Winfrey in it.

The film premiere was well-attended by stars such as John Beasley, Lisa Arrindell, Cynthia Erivo, Audra Mcdonald, and Spike Lee.
