Heart Disease News: Saturated Fat Never Block Arteries; Disease Is Chronic Inflammatory Condition, Says Research
The traditional belief that heart disease is mainly the outcome of saturated fat accumulated from foods like meat, cheese, and butter is now proved wrong by a group of cardiologists. According to experts, the popular fact that saturated fats deal with clogging up the arteries is not logical now.
What Does Recent Studies Say About Heart Disease?
The researchers said that coronary artery heart disease is actually a chronic inflammatory condition. People who follow the Mediterranean style diet, rich in the anti-inflammatory compounds such as extra virgin olive oil, oily fish, and nits get more response to it (coronary artery heart disease), as reported by Express.
There is no association between consumption of saturated fat and heightened risk of cardiovascular (heart) disease. This is what was cited by in support of the argument by Professor Rita Redberg of UCSF School of Medicine in the United States, cardiologist at Lister Hospital, Herts, Dr. Aseem Malhotra, and Pascal Meier of University College London.
“Decades of emphasis on the primacy of lowering plasma cholesterol, as if this was an end in itself and driving a market of ‘proven to lower cholesterol’ and ‘low fat’ foods and medications, has been misguided,” as mentioned by Dr. Aseem Malhotra in an editorial content published by British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Does Lowering Saturated Fat Reduce Heart Attacks For People With Heart Disease?
On the other hand, Dr. Malhotra said that lowering saturated fat also does not reduce heart attacks even in those people who are already suffering from it. Since people still consider saturated fat as the major cause of typical heart diseases, they shift their diets towards carbohydrates. But people do not know that an excess of both refined and processed carbs play a part in the process of developing or curing cardiovascular diseases, CBC News reported.
Saturated Fat Is A Vital Source For Nutrition For Thousands Of Years
According to Dr. Yutang Wang, senior lecturer at Federation University Australia, depriving saturated fats from the diet of human being has been shown to augment mortality risk. He further said that saturated fat has always been a vital source for nutrition for humans for thousands of years.
