Woman Making Waffles Shot and Wounded After Bullets Explode in her Oven
A Florida woman making herself some waffles was wounded after bullets her roommate stored inside her oven exploded and hit her with shrapnel.
Aalaya Walker, 18, of Tampa, Florida, had apparently preheated the oven in her apartment on Monday to make herself a snack not knowing that her visiting friend Javarski "JJ" Sandy, 25, had been storing his high-capacity pistol magazine with four live rounds in her oven.
Walker was hit in the chest and leg by shrapnel from at least one round, but her injuries were not severe and she was able to take herself to the hospital.
Sandy, who legally owns a .45-caliber Glock 21 semiautomatic pistol told authorities that he took the magazine out of his gun and put it in the oven and put the gun in the drawer, according to Tampa Bay Times.
He also showed police the melted magazine and said that it had four live rounds in it at the time. However, Sandy never explained to police why he put the pistol magazine in the oven.
According to the official police report, Sandy "stated that he does not have a temperature gauge on the oven so he estimates the temperature based on how far the knob is turned."
Officers later determined that Sandy had committed no crime and he was not charged.
