Why Narcissists Tend to be Successful Entrepreneurs
When you work with an unbearable narcissist, it must be difficult to see them go up the corporate ladder. However, there is an intersection between the qualities of a good leader and that of narcissists, which already gives them a head start.
In a study, researchers noted that resilience, relentlessness and self-confidence are positive qualities of leaders. Coincidentally, narcissists also generally possess those qualities. Over the past years, more studies have shown that narcissists tend to get paid more, and they get more chances of being promoted to leadership positions. But what makes them more successful as entrepreneurs? Here are some reasons.
They believe in themselves and take big risks
Unlike others, narcissists typically stay away from self-doubt. Instead, they believe they are the best, and this kind of arrogance ironically helps them reach their greatest potential. Several studies have also shown that they bravely take bigger risks, which reap bigger rewards.
They know how to play the political game
In a 2018 study, researchers found that narcissists and those who have what is described as dark personalities know how to play the part in a political game. They will choose to spend their time flattering and helping out people who can help them up the ladder over mentoring a newbie or befriending them.
They likely have Darwinian entrepreneurial motivations
Narcissists often operate under Darwinian entrepreneurial motivations, which means their minds are set on running a business and making a profit. Because of this, they tend to perform well because they believe they will make a profit out of it. Because of this drive, they are often regarded as workaholics.
