UK Couple Marries After Both Have Sex-Change Surgery
Like any other couple, the wedding day for Felix Laws, 46 years old, and Helen Morfitt, 56 years old, will be a wonderful occasion. The second marriage for Mr. Laws and the fourth for Ms. Morfitt, the couple has 10 children between the two of them. At times, they cause heads to turn because Ms. Morfitt is seven inches taller than her future husband. However, their wedding is a bit unusual for some, because the two share a secret. While Ms. Helen Morfitt was born a boy named Leslie, Mr. Felix Laws was born a girl named Katy.
According to the Mirror, this will be the first marriage for both of them after having switched genders. Mr. Laws explains that he married at 21 to a man because it was expected of him then. However, after having two children, Mr. Laws was unable to continue living a lie. He left the family, thinking that he was gay. After having been in a lesbian relationship for six years, he came out to his partner as transgender.
Ms. Morfitt took a similarly circuitous route to her transgender acceptance. She married three times, fathering eight children because her wives wanted them. She explains it by saying that she believes that she was trying to overcompensate her feeling born the wrong gender. "It was a very stressful time for me and I was told by my GP that I could have died if I didn't do something about it because it was causing me to have extremely high blood pressure," she said to the Hull Daily Mail. "He said that unless we deal with this now then it could kill me and it was then when I came to terms with it myself."
The couple met when Felix confessed his feelings about his gender to his doctor. The doctor referred him to a psychologist who, in turn, referred him to Helen, who led a transgender support group. As they met and shared their stories, they fell in love.
The couple, who live together, will marry on September 13, the day that both underwent their sex-change surgery years apart.
