Mourners in Zimbabwe were left in shock when a "dead" man miraculously resurrected at his own funeral last Monday.

According to the Daily News, funeral attendees "jumped out of their skins" and "ran for their lives" when Brighton Dama Zanthe, 34, started twitching in his coffin.

Friends and family had thought that the body of Zanthe, who they believed died following a long illness, and come back to life to haunt them.

Amid the sudden frenzy, Lot Gaka managed to keep a clear head and save Zanthe. Gaka, who is the Zimbabwean transport worker's employer, said he desperately pulled the blankets off Zanthe's body and called an ambulance.

"I was the first to notice Mr. Zanthe's moving legs as I was in the queue to view his body. At first I could not believe my eyes but later realized that there was indeed some movements on the body as other mourners retreated in disbelief," Gaka, told The Herald.

Zanthe was rushed to the nearby Gweru Provincial Hospital, where he remained on life support for two days before being discharged last week.

"I don't know what happened, and I only remember being on a life support system in hospital," Zanthe told NewZimbabwe.com.

"Everything is history to me. What I can only confirm is that people gathered at my house to mourn but I was given another chance and I am alive. I feel okay now," he added.

Surprisingly, dead bodies coming back to life is not an uncommon event in the African country.  Just this year, a Zimbabwean woman who was believed to have died during sex woke up in terror after she was placed into a coffin, according to the Huffington Post.

In 2012, another Zimbabwe woman was "resurrected" after she stabbed herself and was allegedly declared dead, according to the Chronicle. She was suspected of being possessed and rushed to the hospital.
