A Pennsylvania woman was left in terror when she opened a bag of potatoes and found a 3 ½-foot long snake nestled in between the vegetables.

Bonnie Raygor said she was preparing dinner when she made the chilling discovery.  She said she had bought the sack of potatoes six days before at a Walmart in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, but had not opened the sealed sack yet.

Raygor said she immediately saw the snake's underbelly when she opened the bag.

"First I saw its underbelly, which is white. I thought I had a bad potato," Raygor told WTAE. "Instead I had a snake. The bag was sealed. The only thing that's in it are the little holes, so I'm assuming it was in there when I bought it. I screamed."

After researching some sites on the internet, Raygor believes the orange and white surprise in her potato bag was a corn snake.

"I'm hoping it's a corn snake, because I just stuck my hand in it and grabbed it," she said.

Raygor was able to trap the snake in an old reptile enclosure her family had from a previous pet.

Raygor believes the snake must have been in the potato sack since she purchased it last Friday.  She said she hadn't opened the sack at all, and the only openings in the bag were tiny air holes.

She said that she immediately called Walmart after she found the snake.

"First they told me I should bring it to the lawn and garden department and they'd take care of it," Raygor said. "And then I was dissatisfied, so I called and asked to speak to a manager, and he said if I had a receipt, I could get a refund. And that was the extent."

According to WTAE, Walmart says they plan on contacting Irving Farms Marketing, the distributor of the Harvest Gold potatoes that Raygo bought.

"I think they need to find out where it came from. They owe me an apology," she said.
