Forget texting. A new study reveals that nearly half of women admit putting on make-up while driving.

The poll revealed that 46 percent of female respondents apply last-minute make-up at traffic lights or while waiting in traffic, and 43 percent say they do it even though they know it is dangerous.

According to the Daily Mail, insurers estimate that as many as 450,000 accidents a year are caused by women drivers being distracted while making their face. However, only 14 percent of respondents said using applying cosmetics in the car affected their driving, according to the survey of 1,000 women.

According to the survey, conducted by semi-permanent make-up specialist Debra Robson, mascara, lipstick and lip gloss were the most commonly applied products by female drivers.

The survey revealed that most women apply make-up in the car because of time pressure.  A fifth of women feel so rushed in the morning they can only spend five minutes doing their make up.

The survey also found that 63 percent women apply make up on the train and 43 percent on the bus.

"We all know putting make-up on in the car is wrong - but nearly half of us do it," said Debra Robson, of Debra Robson LDN, who commissioned the survey, according to the Daily Mail. "It's because most professional women do everything in a rush, particularly in the mornings when they are juggling a multitude of tasks."

"That's why so many women are finishing off their make-up routine on their daily commute - whether that is in the car or on the bus or the train," Robson explained.

"Faced with such time pressures, increasing numbers of women are trying semi-permanent make-up," she added. "It saves vital minutes in the mornings and means your make-up looks great from the moment you wake up."
