Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez will be taking a month's break after doctors said they found blood in her brain following a head injury, according to the Associated Press.  

Cristina Fernandez, 60, suffered trauma to the brain in August and had been given the all-clear at the time, her spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro said. However, new tests identified the chronic subdural hematoma, a type of hemorrhage, and "doctors ordered her to rest for a month," Scoccimarro said in a statement.

A subdural hematoma is caused by an accumulation of blood under a membrane that covers the brain. It usually occurs after a blow to the head.

 In the meantime, Vice President Amado Boudou will be taking over the president's duties.

In accordance with doctor's orders, Fernandez will not be able to campaign for her party before the key congressional midterm elections on Oct. 27.

According to Reuters, recent polls have shown the government is close to losing control of Congress, an outcome that would cause Fernandez the chance to enter a constitutional reform that would allow her to run for a third term in 2015.

Cristina Fernandez has been president of Argentina since 2007. This is not her first health scare, Fernandez had her thyroid glands removed last year after she was diagnosed with cancer, although later tests indicated no cancer was present.
