Coffee Trumps Morning Sex, Survey
Coffee or sex? A new survey reveals that, upon rising, the majority of people desire a cup of joe more than a little action.
The poll, conducted by Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts, revealed that 53 percent of its guests felt like coffee, not sex, was the best way to start the day.
The survey also revealed an overwhelming 78 percent of respondents would rather abstain from alcohol, social media or sex with their partner for a year than kick their coffee habit over the same amount of time.
The poll, which included guests across China, India, the United Arab Emirates and the United States earlier this year, revealed that 51 percent of people can abstain from sex longer than going without their caffeine fix.
Researchers found that 28 percent of respondents said the felt less creative without their coffee, another 22 percent claimed that it would be physically impossible to get out of bed and 16 percent said "they are not able to talk to other people" without their morning java.
The survey, which involved 7,455 people, revealed that 73 percent of respondents would forego television and internet in the hotel for a cup of coffee and 63 percent would give up alcohol over coffee while staying at a hotel.
"Coffee continues to be an increasingly important part of the travel experience, and to develop high impact programming for our Le Meridien guests, it was important that we had an understanding of global coffee trends," spokesperson Brian Povinelli, Global Brand Leader of Le Meridien and Westin said in a press release.
"The new Le Meridien Master Barista program, derived from key findings from our study, will further bring to life a quintessential European cafe and breakfast culture at Le Meridien hotels and resorts around the world," Povinelli added.
