1 in 4 Internet Daters Meet Their Spouse Online
A new study reveals that 23 percent of singles who meet online end up marrying their partners.
New research from the Pew Research Center suggests that dating websites are now one of the main ways Americans find love, with 23 percent of people finding their spouses or long-term partners online.
"Public attitudes toward online dating have become more positive in recent years," researchers explained.
The study involved 2,252 adults aged 18 or older. Researchers conducted telephone interviews from April 17 to May 19, 2013 and asked respondents about their online dating experiences.
Researchers found that 38 percent of Americans who are currently single and actively looking for a partner have used dating websites sometime in their lives.
The study found that 11 percent of all internet users have dated online and that college-educated singles between 20 and 40 are most likely to turn to dating websites.
The study also revealed that 7 percent of smartphone users admit that they have used a dating app on their phones.
Perception toward online dating is also becoming more positive, with 59 percent of all internet users agreeing with the statement that "online dating is a good way to meet people," which is up from 44 percent in 2005.
