Salads and Sandwich Wraps Recalled Due to Possible E. Coli

Salads are once again the main products in a new recall by Glass Onion Catering. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), over 180,000 pounds of ready-to-eat salads and sandwich wrap products made with fully cooked chicken and ham might be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. So far, over two dozen people have gotten sick.

The USDA has reported that at least 26 people have fallen ill due to this strain of bacteria. The patients are from three different states and got sick within the past few weeks. Of the 26 people, 15 of them reported eating a product that was a part of the recall list. E. coli 0157:H7 causes dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Symptoms usually show up around two to eight days after eating the contaminated product. Even though the recovery period is usually one week, for some people, especially children under five and seniors, an infection could cause hemolytic uremic syndrome, which is a type of kidney failure.

The company, which is based in Richmond, CA, supplies its products to distribution centers located in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington. Companies that sold the products include Trader Joe's, Super Fresh Goods and Delish. The products in question were made from September 23 through to November 6 and have a label reading, "P-34221." Some of the products include the Delish Pan Pacific Chop Salad (12 oz.), Delish California Style Grilled Chicken Salad (13.4 oz.), Delish Uncured Applewood Smoked Ham & Cheese Wrap (9.9 oz.), Delish Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap (10.5 oz.) and Delish Southwestern Chicken Wrap (10.9 oz.)
