UK Study Reports Looking Good Is Pricey: Makeup Can Cost about $165
Makeup has always been a part of people's lives. Back in the day, people, such as Egyptians have used makeup to enhance certain parts of their face. In today's world, the cosmetic industry has broadened so much with many different kinds of makeup products. In a new study conducted by researchers from the United Kingdom, they concluded that looking good can be one expensive task. The report totaled the prices of the products that people use everyday and found that the average makeup bag costs nearly 100 pounds or 165 dollars.
"It does seem that there's an element of uniformity though according to our poll. Some things are clearly regarded as more essential than others. The collective value is also a bit of an eye opener. Although individual items may seem inexpensive, it appears that the total soon adds up once you put them all together," said Matthew Wood from Vouchercloud who headed the study reported by Daily Mail. Looking good doesn't come cheap it would seem, but we always encourage people to look for makeup discounts wherever possible as there are always deals to be had."
For this study, the researchers surveyed 2,104 adult women living in the UK. Based on the answers, the researchers calculated that the average number of makeup items in a woman's bag was 14. Some of the most popular items included mascara at 74 percent, eye liner at 71 percent and concealer at 66 percent. The most popular cosmetic brands were Rimmel with 42 percent, Maybelline with 39 percent and Clinique with 38 percent.
The researchers then asked the participants to estimate the total cost of their makeup bag. The researchers found that the typical makeup bag costs around 93.32 pounds or 153 dollars based on these self-reports. A majority of the women surveyed reported that they had to restock their makeup bags with new items around every three weeks. After finding the average cost, the researchers were interested in observing just how important makeup is for women. They found that 28 percent of women admitted that they would never go out makeup free. Only 19 percent of them stated that they went out without applying any makeup.
Based on this study, even though makeup can get pricey, it is worth it for a lot of women.
