Nuts Might Help You Live Longer
People who eat nuts on a daily basis are less likely to die from heart disease, cancer and respiratory disease compared to those who don’t, according to a recent study.
According to the study performed at Harvard, it was found that nut eaters were healthier overall with smaller waists, lower obesity rates, lower cholesterol and sufficient sugar levels.
The study was performed on more than 100,000 men and women.
They found that amino acids, vitamins and minerals found in nuts supported blood flow to the brain and assisted brain with cognitive tasks performing better.
Nuts also contained monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, that helped heart in maintaining a rhythm and hence regulating a normal blood flow.
Nuts were also found to be effective on curbing access weight as they contain high quality protein and fiber that can make you feel full longer than foods. Since these also had a low glycemic index, it was also preferred in a diet for battling diabetes.
The research also found that nuts curried anti-inflammatory and antioxidants characteristics which reduced the chances of cancer and other respiratory diseases.
However, researchers cautioned that nuts were high in calories and hence eating more can lead to weight gain. You can use nuts to replace other foods and limit them to just one once every day by using following suggestions.
- 28 peanuts can take the place of tortilla chips
- 48 pistachios are a good substitute for potato chips
- 24 almonds make a nice trail mix combined with one-quarter of a cup of dried fruit
- 14 walnut halves taste great added to breakfast cereal
- 20 pecan halves are a delicious substitute for croutons on a tossed green salad
- 20 hazelnuts can be toasted and tossed with vegetables such as broccoli or green beans
- 18 cashews make a satisfying sweet snack in place of candy
