There has been “a slow and gradual deterioration” in the condition of Israeli ex-PM Ariel Sharon who has been in a coma since 2006.

The last update which doctors gave was that his life remained in danger and was still fighting. However, there were no signs of any pain in ex-PM’s body, doctor said.

Mr. Sharon, 85, is suffering from a malfunction of various organs including his kidneys. After he became PM in 2001, he suffered a mid stroke in 2005. A year later he suffered a severe stroke and is in comma since then.

“Tests show a slow, gradual deterioration in the functioning of his vital organs… His state has not changed. He’s still in critical condition, and his life is in danger,” said Professor Zeev Rotstein, of the Sheba Medical Centre near Tel Aviv, to BBC.

US secretary of State John Kerry offered his best wishes and said thoughts of the American people were with Mr. Sharon’s family.

“We remember his contributions, the sacrifices he made to ensure the survival and the wellbeing of Israel,” he said.

Mr. Sharon is best remembered for his significant role the wars of 1967 and 1973 that played a key role in Israeli successes.

In 1982, he became the defence minister and the same year he masterminded Israel’s invasion of Lebanon to push back fighters of the Palestine Liberation Organisation which was based there, BBC reported.
