2013 Was The Fourth Warmest Year Since 1880, Report Finds

Report published by two top American scientific agencies NOAA and NASA have confirmed that the trend of global warming is continuing.

Annual climate report of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) concluded that above-average annual temperature was experienced in most part of the planet last year. According to reports 2003 was the fourth warmest year, since record keeping began in 1880 and climate conditions of 2013 were tied with that of 2003.

Combined Global and ocean surface temperature was recorded 0.62 Celsius above he 20th century where average has been 13.9 Celsius.

Another analysis by NASA concluded with identical findings. The report said global temperature of the year 2013 tied with the temperature recorded in 2006 and 2009.

Nevertheless, the process of global temperature used by two agencies are different, though they agree on the trend of calculation.

Data from the past 134 years suggest, global warming due to building-up of the greenhouse gases is the prime reason for the rise in temperature.

NASA in its report said CO2 is at its highest level in the atmosphere. It has also recorded the rise of the gas to 400 parts per million 2013 compared to 285 parts per million in 1880.

"Long-term trends in surface temperatures are unusual and 2013 adds to the evidence for ongoing climate change," climatologist Gavin Schmidt, of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies said in a press release. "While one year or one season can be affected by random weather events, this analysis shows the necessity for continued, long-term monitoring."
