Google Glass - the face mounted computer, are now compatible with prescription glasses. Google announced Tuesday that it is adding handful of new stylish frames for its Google Glass.
The move to attach Google Glass with prescription lenses is being seen as the latest attempt to make it more mainstream, fashionable and consumer friendly. The product is expected to be released at the end of 2014.
The frames for prescription lenses designed by Google, will cost $225 each. At present, the Titanium line has four shapes of frame namely, curve, thin, split and bold. The color of the Titanium frames is gray but the maker has also provided with four options bearing other subtle accent colors.
Google has also added three options of sunglasses costing $150 each.
Google Glass performs basic smartphone functions such as shooting videos, displaying emails, providing walking directions and sports scores on its tiny screen above the wearer's right eye.
"We're going to reach some day, hopefully it will be soon, where people will wonder 'why would I want traditional glasses? They don't do X, Y or Z,' " said Google Glass Product Director Steve Lee, according to CNN.
"Sometimes I want to go out and I want to be seen, I want people to talk to me about Glass. I've actually found glass to be the most social experience ever," added Lee. "But other times I just want to go about my business, stay low key."
Since its inception, Google Glass has raised concerns related to privacy and security. Conjunction of Google Glass with prescription lenses can raise another set of issues. However, Google is confident that subsequently these concerns will abate.
"I think you need to give the technology a chance to breathe and evolve," said Google Glass spokesperson Chris Dale, according to CNN.
