44-Year-Old Fetus Found Inside 84-Year-Old Woman
Doctors have found a 44-year-old calcified fetus inside an 84-year-old Brazilian woman who went to hospital complaining of a stomach pains.
The hospital in the Tocantins state in central Brazil carried an X-ray of the woman's stomach and found the "stone baby." In the X-ray, "the face, the bones of the arms, of the legs, the ribs, and the spine" of the fetus was noticed. Doctors say the fetus died between 20 and 28 weeks.
"Her stomach didn't grow any more, the baby stopped moving and she thought it had been aborted," said Porto Nacional hospital gynecologist Gesneria Saraiva Kratka according to Opposing Views.
"It's supernatural, but she has not had any complications," Kratka said. "We are going to perform some new tests, scans to see more details and then we will speak with her relatives to see if they allow us to operate."
After the fetus died, it was not expelled from the woman's body. Naturally in such scenarios, the body covers the fetus in calcium to protect the body from the fetal corpse.
Reportedly, the woman is not in favor to remove the baby.
A similar case had happened in Colombia in December where an 82-year-old woman was carrying the 40-year old fetus.
According to reports, the longest case of lithopedion was recorded in China last year where a 92-year-old woman said she was informed of a dead fetus 65 years ago, in 1948, but due to poor economic conditions, she could not had it removed.
