Women Wear Red Lipstick To Get Ahead in the Workplace

Women believe wearing red lipstick will help them get ahead in the workplace, according to a new survey of 1,000 women.

New research reveals that 40 percent of women apply red lipstick to promote themselves at work by getting attention from a male boss.

The survey also revealed that 60 percent of women apply heavy eye make-up, such as dark eye shadow, eyeliner and mascara to promote themselves as work.

Furthermore, 40 percent of workingwomen believe that applying makeup is the only way to get promoted as work.

The study also revealed that one out of two women would even break conservative dress code and wear low-cut tops and high heels to work to boost their careers.

The survey also revealed that women don't just doll up to advance their careers. Researchers found that 58 percent of women reported having feelings for their boss and only 26 percent said they would keep their feelings to themselves. Researchers also found that 22 percent of women had acted on their feelings and went on dates with fellow employees.

"A red lip is no longer a look reserved for a date or a night out," said Emma Leslie, beauty editor for online beauty retailer Escentual.com which sponsored the study, according to Daily Mail. "For whatever reasons, more and more women are introducing red lipstick into their office make-up routine, but it's important to make sure you don't go overboard. "

"I always recommend keeping the rest of your make-up fairly muted if you plan on sporting a bold lip in the daytime," she advised. "If you don't feel brave enough for a full-on red lip in the office, a sheerer formula or more coral tone allows you to work the look in a less dramatic way."
