iPhone 6s Battery Shutdown Latest News & Update: Apple Meets With China Watchdogs In Beijing

A representative from Apple has reportedly hooked up with the China Consumer Association (CCA) in an effort to shed more light on the iPhone 6s shutdown issues. The problem is believed to be tied up to the batteries for the said handset, particularly units produced between September to October 2015.

Word of such comes from Quartz which tackles the premature iPhone 6s shutdowns. Despite the controversial battery shutdown issue, Apple believes that the problem does not pose a safety risk for consumers. Some units are reportedly shutting down with still about half of the battery charge remaining. Also, some units are reportedly shutting down due to room temperatures, Apple Insider added.

iPhone 6s owners affected by the battery problem can still seek battery replacements, needing to contact an Apple store for technical support before changing them. The CCA alleges that the Cupertino company has made progress on the matter though they have yet to disclose the actual reason behind the unexpected shutdowns. It was mentioned in December that a possible reason was the exposure to controlled ambient air longer than necessary.

Apparently, the increased exposure causes faster depreciation for the battery and hence the shutdowns. The CCA has raised the issues twice with Apple last year. With the latest meeting, a better and official explanation on the iPhone 6s shutdown due to the battery problem could be finally revealed soon. Seeing how China is a key source of revenue in terms of device sales, the collaboration between the two is closely monitored by many.

Subsequent iOS updates did not include the celebrated battery drain issue, likely because it only affects a certain class of iPhone 6s units. With the iPhone 7/ 7 Plus already out, most are hoping that the same battery malfunction issue does not crop up on certain models based on manufacture date.
